Day Thirty -- to Iowa City, IA

Day 30 – Grand Island, NE, to Iowa City, IA

Ruby, Ruby, Ruby! It was an easy drive across the rest of Nebraska and most of Iowa today, and when we pulled over at Sue and Peter’s house, the kids leapt out of the van before it was even parked and ran inside screaming for Ruby.
My parents, who have cared for our dog for the last three weeks, have come down from St. Paul to (hopefully) surrender the dog to us before we continue to Lafayette. And we are so excited to see her!
Of course, we are excited to see my family, too. Especially Alec, Sue and Peter’s son, who graduated from Northwestern U. three weeks ago, and is headed back to Evanston tomorrow. We were also welcomed by their dog, Solar, and have met sweet Josephine the iguana.
Sue served a delicious summer supper, and now we are relaxing with ice cream and berries. Kids are in bed, and it’s only 9 p.m. Central Time. I thought for sure they’d be up until 11, considering the schedule (or non-schedule, depending on how you look at it) they’ve been following. This bodes well for getting them back on Eastern Time sooner than later.
Five more hours in the car, and we’ll be home!
