My Dear Natalie,
I woke up this morning, made a cup of coffee and snuck out to the balcony to take in the awesome view. And to pinch myself.

After breakfast, we took a quick, 4-mile hike from the village of Waterton up the side of a mountain scarred by fire to Bertha Falls.

| It's heartening to witness the renewal, so soon after a devastating fire. |
We had just started the hike when two big horn sheep came barreling down the trail toward us. Emphasis on “big” and “horn.” They were being flushed down the mountain by a noisy group of hikers farther ahead. Because the dense underbrush kept us from stepping off the trail and out of their way, we had to scurry all the way back to the trailhead to prevent an altercation.
When we got to the falls, we considered going a couple miles farther, to Bertha Lake, but the rumble of thunder in the distance forced us back down the mountain. It started raining just as we got to the car.

| That's me! I look like a total bad-ass! |
Back at the hotel, we enjoyed afternoon tea and sweeping views through the Great Room windows.
It rained — and poured — on and off throughout the afternoon, so we spread out in the lobby and I spent the time updating the blog, and everyone else read and then played games.
We’ll go back down to Waterton Village tonight for dinner — and then, because I am completely caught up with my writing, I will relax with a book and soak up the atmosphere of this amazing hotel.
Signing off for tonight ... Ciao!
Love, Mom
